On a beautiful fall evening last week, 50 upper-level members gathered in the Africa section of the Zoo for cocktails and other treats with Curator Candace Sclimenti. “It was an amazing night,” raves GLAZA Membership Director Lisa Correa of the exclusive experience that included rare behind-the-scenes tours of the giraffe and lion exhibits and a reception at Chimpanzees of the Mahale Mountains, where Sclimenti gave a talk about chimpanzees, the Zoo’s troop (one of the largest in North America), and Sclimenti’s own field work in Africa on behalf of this endangered species. After her presentation, Sclimenti mingled with guests enjoying gourmet hors d’oeuvres while the nearby chimpanzees socialized over nibbles of their own.
“We’re delighted to host Cocktails with the Curator for Patron Circle members every October,” says Correa. “I’ve been at the Zoo for a long time, and I always learn something new. It’s so fascinating… and inspiring.”
